The Cast of Christmas: Mary

MARY: Undeserving Nobodies

Main Scripture: Luke 1:26-38, 46-55

Additional Scriptures: Luke 4:16-22, 25-27, Psalm 119:11

POINTS:

  • Mary:

    • A real human being

    • Marginalized

    • Humble

    • Slave-maid (no payment, no rights)

    • Has Godfidence (confidence in who God says you are)

  • The Christmas Spirit: The Christmas spirit is God stepping out of heaven to bring salvation to you and me, a group of undeserving nobodies because He loves us.

  • We get stuck on the Me in Merry and we miss the Anointed One of Christmas.

  • Christmas should offend your ego, self-righteousness, greediness, neediness, and desire for power and success.

  • To receive the good news of Christmas, you must come to Jesus poor.

  • What spills out of you when the unexpected happens in your life? What spilled out of Mary was praise.

  • There are 15 references to the Old Testament in Mary’s Song of Praise, therefore, Mary has studied and memorized scripture.

  • Mary is not immaculate, therefore, we must not worship her, we must instead, worship the God she worshipped.

  • “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:38)
