Flourish: The Discipline of Knowing the Will of God

THE DISCIPLINE OF KNOWING THE WILL OF GOD

Main Scripture: Psalm 25

Additional Scriptures: Romans 12:1-2, Ephesians 2:10, Hebrews 5:11-14, Psalm 46:10, John 10:27

POINTS:

  • Spiritual Disciplines help us to continually practice repentance.

  • God will instruct the faithful in the plans He has for them.

  • Everything about you is designed by God and for God.

  • We’ve elevated prophecy above other spiritual gifts because we want to know the plan.

  • We want guidance without the Guide.

  • The Bible talks more about the kind of person that God guides and less about how to get guidance.

  • 4 Attributes of people guided by the Lord

    • They are saturated in scripture: You must be saturated in the word of God to distinguish the will of God.

    • They are humble: They want God more than anything else and have tied their identity to Christ’s performance.

    • They are obedient: They do what God says even when it doesn’t make sense.

    • They are relaxed: They know God’s grace is sufficient for every choice they make.

  • The attributes for knowing and following God’s will for your life are the same attributes you should look for in those from whom you receive counsel.
