Flourish: The Discipline of Meditation
THE DISCIPLINE OF MEDITATION
Main Scripture: Psalm 1
Additional Scriptures: John 10:9-10, 15:10-11, Matthew 5-7, 7:13-14, Psalm 22:14-15, 103:1-2
POINTS:
Flourish: growing or developing in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment.
The law of the Lord is the revelation of God’s character through the person of Jesus Christ
To meditate is to patiently ponder scripture.
What are you meditating on?
Wicked counsel: Accusation
Sinners: Application of accusation
Mockers: Trying to bring others into accusation with them.
The greatest determinant of whether we flourish or decay is what we meditate on.
Our default thoughts are always about our needs. The devil tries to get us to meet our legitimate needs through illegitimate methods.
The devil tries to interpret scripture and our story, however, he is not the Author, Jesus is - heaven didn’t give him a pen and neither should we.
Chaff has no roots and adds no value.
Mediation is preaching to your soul by asking it questions.
Meditation is a bridge from bible study to prayer.
S=Scripture, O=Observation, A=Application, P=Prayer.
In the sermon on the mount, Jesus shows us what it looks like to meditate on the law of the Lord.
Jesus became chaff so that we could flourish.
