Good Grief: If God is good, why did He let this happen?
IF GOD IS Good, WHY DID HE ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN?
Sermon Notes
Main Scriptures: John 11
Additional Scriptures: Romans 5:3-6, Isaiah 55:8, 61:2-3, Hebrews 4:15-16
POINTS:
We may feel like God has let us down and question His love for us.
We must grab ahold of the tools of hope that Jesus has given us: His love, His timing, and His counsel.
God’s love is not a pampering love, but a perfecting love.
God wants to pour Himself into our loss.
“If we knew what God knows, we would ask exactly for what he gives” Timothy Keller.
Jesus is both fully God and fully human, this makes Him the Wonderful Counselor in our grief.
The tools of hope are activated through prayer.
We must weep. Denial is not faith.
We can ask questions, but realize that although we may want an answer, what we need is more faith, hope, and love.
“Grief is not something we should be ashamed of because it’s proof that we loved deeply”
The only way for Jesus to stop Lazarus’ funeral was to cause His own.
“This does not end with death, it ends with glory”
