RESILIENT: The Power of Pivot

The Power of Pivot

June 4, 2023

Main Scripture: James 4:13-17

Additional Scriptures: Proverbs 13:12, 16:3,9, Isaiah 40:1-2, 28-31, Romans 8:28

POINTS:

  • Apathy leads to hopelessness.

  • Plans: Future-oriented and organized around a goal.

  • The Bible tells us to plan, but we are foolish to plan independently of God.

  • Planning that doesn’t include God is Pride.

  • Disappointment: sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one's hopes or expectations.

  • Disappointments are like barnacles on our souls, as they accumulate we start to move slower, and our capacity to handle change becomes increasingly limited.

  • Anxiety: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.

  • Through every “what if?” God is with us.

  • “If God will’s it” means that we must surrender our plans to God.

  • God is both great and good, and we need to know Him as both to surrender our plans to Him.

  • Pivot: a movement in which the player holding the ball may move in any direction with one foot while keeping the other (the pivot foot) in contact with the floor.

  • The power of Pivot: Prayer places one foot on Christ and allows the other to swivel. As we pray, we look for who God is, His greatness, and goodness, and when we find Him, we release our plans (surrender).

  • We will see a victory when we surrender our plans to God.
