Obedience in the Wilderness
January 28, 2024
Main Scripture: Exodus 5-10
Additional Scriptures: Hebrews 12:15, 13:8, 1 John 4:18, John 3:16-17, 2 Peter 3:9, Genesis 1:1-2, Exodus 12:13, Matthew 27:45-46
POINTS:
The plagues answer Pharoah’s question about who God is and why we should obey Him.
We live in a pluralist society, where God stands apart as unique.
We should obey God because there is no one like Him.
Knowing that no one is like our God, is not enough cause for us to obey Him.
God performed the plagues naturally instead of supernaturally because the plagues are an “Undoing” of Genesis 1-2.
We should obey God because to break His law is to break ourselves. When we disobey God we unleash chaos and disorder in our lives.
God gives us physical, emotional, relational, and societal laws that point us to abundant life.
The fear of punishment is not enough cause for us to obey God.
We should obey God because He loves us. It is His perfect love that drives out fear.
On the Cross all of God’s judgment fell on Jesus - and He began to disintegrate. This is the ultimate Exodus.
