Unexpected Faith

Mary

Main Scripture: Luke 1:26-55 (NASB)

Additional Scriptures: Luke 4:16-21, 22, 25-27, Psalm 119:11

POINTS:

  • Mary is real, marginalized, and humble.

  • She offers herself to God as His “slave maid”

  • At this time in history, there was a distinction between servant and slave. A servant was paid and had certain rights, and a slave was not paid and had no rights.

  • Mary knows who she is and Whose she is. Mary has Godfidence.

  • The Christmas spirit isn’t “I hope I get everything I want”. The Christmas spirit is God stepping out of heaven to bring salvation to you and me, a group of undeserving nobodies because He loves us.

  • When we limit our view of Christmas to just getting gifts for ourselves, our family, and our friends, we aren’t really celebrating Christmas anymore.

  • Christmas should offend your ego, greediness, neediness, self-righteousness, and desire for power and success.

  • If you go through this season never seeing your own need for salvation, along with the salvation of those around you, then what you have is Happy Holidays, maybe Xmas, but not Christmas.

  • Jesus comes to those who know they are spiritually poor.

  • What spills out of you when the unexpected happens in your life? What spilled out of a 13-year-old Mary was worship.

  • We must study and memorize scripture because what goes in us comes out of us when the unexpected happens in our life.

Mary did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new, this child that you delivered will soon deliver you? How unexpected
