Emotionally Healthy Discipleship: Be before you Do

Main Scripture: Luke 10:38-42

Additional Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 13:1-7, Philippians 4:6, Psalm 139, Proverbs 3:12

POINTS:

  • A Christians spiritual maturity is directly linked to their emotional maturity (Peter Scazzero)

  • Emotional Infant: they look for other people to take care of them emotionally or spiritually.

  • Emotional Child: Takes things personally and is easily offended..

  • Emotional Adolescent: Unteachable and unforgiving.

  • Emotional Adult: Values being loving over being right.

  • The true sign of spiritual maturity is not what we do it’s how we love.

  • What or who do you recognize when you are with the Lord? Everything that is wrong? The many tasks? Or Who He is?

  • When our doing informs our being, we will believe the lie that we only matter to God when we do things for God.

  • When you recognize who Jesus is, you will respond with thanksgiving and humility.

  • We must express our feelings to God.

  • Our feelings are meant to inform us, not define us. They can inform us that something is amiss.

  • We must listen to God for correction.

  • We must make the adjustment He is calling us to make.
