Emotionally Healthy Discipleship: Follow the Crucified Christ

FOLLOW THE CRUCIFIED CHRIST

Main Scripture: Matthew 16:22-27

Additional Scriptures: Matthew 6:16, 11-12, Luke 12:1, John 6:68-69, 2 Cor. 13:5, Romans 12:1-2

POINTS:

  • The Nicene Creed outlines the primary doctrine of the Christian Faith.

  • When we don’t know our history we allow culture to not only divide the church, but define the church.

  • There were five major Jewish groups trying to influence Jesus’ public ministry: the Sadducees, Pharisees, Essenes, Zealots, & Herodians.

  • 5 Steps For Following the Crucified Christ:

  • Desire: We see Jesus as the ultimate source of fulfillment.

  • Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

  • Deny: We deny the worldly philosophy of self-will, self-importance, self-indulgence, self-sufficiency, and self-fulfillment.

  • If we don’t deny ourselves, we will create a False Self copying the patters of this world. And a False Self creates a False Church.

  • Death: Ending your life of self and beginning a life of sacrifice and service to Jesus.

  • Devotion: Walk the same road Jesus walked, following His lead in EVERYTHING.

  • Is there anything you watch or do that you would be embarrassed if Jesus came along?

  • Destiny: A full life now and an eternal life to come.
