RESILIENT: Do you have enough?

RESILIENT: Do you have enough?

Main Scripture: Habakkuk 1:1-2, 3:17-19

Additional Scriptures: Jeremiah 2:6, 12-13, Habakkuk 1:5, 13, 3:16, John 7:37-38

POINTS:

1. Chronic failure cripples our capacity to hope.

2. Trauma cycle: rally, denial, search for something better, disappointment, rage, rejection, and punishment.

3. Unhealed trauma sensitizes us to more trauma and brings to the surface past trauma.

4. We long for life to be good again.

5. Where do we run when our willpower is no longer enough?

6. We must deal with our own hearts by being honest about our desire to run back to the easier place instead of into God’s grace while remaining in the hard place.

7. Habakkuk is honest with God about his feelings of abandonment, hopelessness, and confusion.

8. Our lack of honesty about our questions shines a light on our use of willpower instead of the Living Water of Jesus Christ. We are making broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

9. Habakkuk shepherds his desire for life to be good again, by drawing his “yet” from God and not his circumstances.

10. Resilience draws from the Living water and not our own understanding or willpower.
