The Curciform Life: Servanthood

SERVANTHOOD

Mitch Boese

March 26, 2023

Main Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30

Additional Scriptures: Philippians 2:3-8, John 10:12, Hebrews 12:4

POINTS:

  • To follow Christ we must learn to pay the price, but we will never know or understand the true cost Jesus and Father God paid to redeem us.

  • “What the world needs is not cheap grace but costly grace. Costly grace is the kind of grace that costs a man (or woman) his life.” - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  • A servant is Faithful: We are to do the best we can faithfully with what we have and spread the Gospel through His love and resources, and abilities He has given.

  • Be faithful by losing yourself in the Master

  • A servant is Humble: The King of Heaven and Creation stepped down out of Heaven to not only clothe Himself with human flesh but become a selfless servant to the point of death.

  • God’s Son, who never sinned, became sin in the flesh for us to rescue us from death by dying a horrible death Himself.

  • Jesus said, “The Good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep.

  • Will we trust God enough to lean into His humility knowing He’s got us in this life and the next, or will we try to hold on to our finite lives and risk losing everything?

  • A servant is Obedient: If we lack faith in who God is and have pride in ourselves we will try to preserve our lives and be disobedient (self-preservation). We need Devotion to utterly love and give ourselves to God and Discipline to set order and routines in our lives that become a daily habit.
