DEEPER DISCIPLESHIP
Each Tuesday at 6:30 pm CST the OTW community digs deeper into the scriptures together.
(D2 will be taking a break for the summer, but will be back in the fall)
OTW encourages a form of scripture study called S.O.A.P.
WHAT IS SOAP? S.O.A.P. is an intentional and strategic method of Bible reading and journaling. Intentional because it will require a commitment. Strategic because it provides a system that will allow you to evaluate progress. S.O.A.P. can be used with any daily Bible reading plan. OTW uses SOAP to dig deeper into the scriptures together!
SCRIPTURE
Open your Bible to today’s reading. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you are done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it in your journal.
OBSERVATION
What struck you and caught your attention in what you read? What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Paraphrase and write this scripture down in your own words.
APPLICATION
Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.
PRAYER
This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out.
You will need the following tools:
1. A Bible, preferably a version that is easy for you to read and understand.
2. A notebook and pen or pencil (or any electronic method). You will need this notebook to journal your observations. It is also great to look back on as you grow in your knowledge of Christ and His Word.
3. About 45 minutes each time you sit down to go deeper in Christ.
