Additional Scriptures: John 13:35, Isaiah 50:4 NASB, Matthew 7:1-5
POINTS:
The American church is guilty of multiplying disciples who do not know how to love.
We don’t know how to love others because we don’t know how to love ourselves.
We haven’t learned what is part of the old nature and what is part of the new one.
The outside work: we must turn outward towards connection instead of inward towards disconnection.
The inside work: repentance by asking questions of ourselves.
Am I fully present or distracted?
Am I loving them or judging them?
Am I open or closed to being changed?
We turn our differences into virtues of moral superiority.
Supernatural authority is given to us when we wield the truth in love.
To love people well we must:
Enter into each other’s world by practicing empathy.
Hold on to yourself in your relationship with others.
We must live in the tensions of the two worlds.
