Main Scripture: 1 Samuel 18:1-14
Additional Scriptures: John 3:30, Philippians 1:18, 4:12-13
POINTS:
Three Aspects of Jealousy: Comparison, Desire, Resentment.
Comparison plants the seeds of jealousy and can lead us to believe we are deficient.
Desire waters the seeds of comparison - you begin to want the life the other person has.
Desire left unaddressed builds into Resentment. You don’t just want their life; you resent their life. You don’t think they deserve the life they have.
Jealousy weeps with those who rejoice and rejoices with those who weep.
Humanity is animated by a jealous spirit.
Jealousy Steals, Fills, and Conceals.
God judges sin by giving us more of what we have chosen.
Sin is a predatory animal. It crouchs down to avoid our view but coils up to spring up and destroy us.
The cure for jealousy is biblical love.
Biblical love gets off the throne of our own hearts and puts Jesus there.
Biblical love is a contentment that creates a desire to share that joy with others.
Our protection against the jealousy that bombards us is to see what we have in Christ and compare that with what we deserve.
