Main Scripture: 1 Samuel 18:1-14

Additional Scriptures: John 3:30, Philippians 1:18, 4:12-13

POINTS:

  • Three Aspects of Jealousy: Comparison, Desire, Resentment.

  • Comparison plants the seeds of jealousy and can lead us to believe we are deficient.

  • Desire waters the seeds of comparison - you begin to want the life the other person has.

  • Desire left unaddressed builds into Resentment. You don’t just want their life; you resent their life. You don’t think they deserve the life they have.

  • Jealousy weeps with those who rejoice and rejoices with those who weep.

  • Humanity is animated by a jealous spirit.

  • Jealousy Steals, Fills, and Conceals.

  • God judges sin by giving us more of what we have chosen.

  • Sin is a predatory animal. It crouchs down to avoid our view but coils up to spring up and destroy us.

  • The cure for jealousy is biblical love.

  • Biblical love gets off the throne of our own hearts and puts Jesus there.

  • Biblical love is a contentment that creates a desire to share that joy with others.

  • Our protection against the jealousy that bombards us is to see what we have in Christ and compare that with what we deserve.
