Main Scripture: 1 Samuel 1:3-11, 18-20
Additional Scriptures: Psalm 42:7-8 (TPT), 1 Samuel 2:4-8, 10, Ephesians 2:4-8, Matthew 5:6 (MSG)
POINTS:
Desperation can bring about a state of hopelessness.
Desperation can also push us deeper into Christ, creating a yearning to see His power in action.
Every culture has a Penninah voice that holds people to impossible standards and shames you for not meeting them.
Every culture also has an Elkinah voice, which tells people to build their lives on another’s affection.
If Hannah had followed the voice of Penninah her voice would have become an echo of Penninah’s to her children and the next generation.
If Hannah had followed the voice of Elkinah, her elevation would have brought separation for her and her children.
Anything we build our lives on except for God Himself will become toxic.
Hannah prays, has peace, and then gets pregnant, which shows that she is building her life on God.
The Pattern of God’s Salvation: God uses the barren, suffering, and weak to bring about His glory.
God’s salvation is found in desperation.
Through God’s pattern of salvation, we begin to see that we are truly loved by the only One who really matters, God, and we begin to build our lives on Him.
Maybe you’re in an unmaking?
