Flourish: The Discipline of Living in Love

TTHE DISCIPLINE OF LIVING IN LOVE

February 26, 2023

Main Scripture: Galatians 5:16-26, 6:1

Additional Scriptures: Matthew 12:33

POINTS:

  • Lent: A time to come to terms with the human condition, which will bring our need for a Savior to the forefront.

  • The children of God should bear the fruit of His Spirit in their lives because their lives remain in Him.

  • Fruit starts small, but it should be growing.

  • The Fruit of the Spirit is singular. It is Fruit, not Fruits. One Spirit with many facets.

  • To flourish regardless of external circumstances and internal storms, we must be growing in every single facet of the Spirit.

  • The root of Sin is self-centeredness. It, like the Spirit, has many facets (Galatians 5:19)

  • No matter how hard we try, we cannot grow spiritual fruit in our own strength.

  • Our job is to crucify our flesh with its passions and desires.

  • The flesh is our sinful nature that desires self-salvation instead of God-salvation.

  • It gives us an over-desire for good things in order to make them the ultimate thing.

  • We crucify our flesh by reminding our hearts that we belong to Christ.

  • The acts of the flesh are all based on insecurity, and the acts of the Spirit are all based on the security of God’s love for us.

  • The sabbath helps us to reorient our hearts to Christ.

  • Jesus has taken the bitter fruit of sin so that we could live in the sweetness of His fruitful love
