One Another(ing) Sermon Series: Fighting the Right Fight

One ANOTHER(ing)

FIGHT THE RIGHT FIGHT

Main Scriptures: Ephesians 4:25-32

Additional Scriptures: 2 Timothy 1:7, 1 John 4:18

POINTS:

  • We have conflict because we are all different. We see the top side of the iceberg with one another, but there is an underside that we don’t see.

  • Genders, personality, life-experiences, and trauma make up a big portion of the underside of the iceberg.

  • Miscommunication is the #2 problem in the world.

  • Unhealed trauma leads to triggers, triggers create in us a feeling of powerlessness, the feeling of powerlessness is where our fear comes from.

  • Fear creates negative narratives about the intent and motivation of one another and about our own worth.

  • Our powerless response to conflict will either be passive, aggressive, or passive/aggressive.

  • A powerful response always begins with prayer and scripture.

  • When we don’t address our negative narratives with prayer and scripture we give the devil a foothold in our internal narratives.

  • Prayer helps us to put off falsehood and put on God’s true righteousness, power, and goodness.

  • The right fight is always about healing the body.

  • “When this happened (describe the situation) the story I told myself was (describe the negative narrative) is this true?”

  • The Holy Spirit’s power is most evidenced in how we treat one another, bringing healing to the broken places no one else sees.
