POINTS:
Conflict deferred is conflict amplified - Dr. John Deloney
We are meant to be menders.
Miscommunication happens because of our differences; differences like our genetic code, life experiences, communal experiences, culture, and trauma.
Triggers: Emotional landmines that people step on that bring us back to that place of past trauma.
Powerlessness is the most prominent emotion we feel when we are triggered.
Healthy communication seeks to understand before being understood, practices empathy, and spends more time listening than speaking.
When we feel powerless we will communicate…
Passively: You matter, I don’t
Aggressively: I matter, you don’t
Passive-Aggressively: You matter, not really
Love is coming under the protection of someone who has our best interest at heart.
In this world, we are like Jesus (1 John 4:17)
Mending relationships happen when we communicate “You matter, and so do I”.
