Good GRIEF

How do I keep going?

Apr. 3, 2022

Main Scriptures: 1 Peter 1:6-23

Additional Scriptures: 1 Peter 4:1-2, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, 12:9, Romans 8:35-37, Job, John 14:26, 16:13, Romans 12:2, Isaiah 42:3, Hebrews 11:1, Luke 22:31-32,

POINTS:

  • We have a distorted view of suffering.

  • One lie we believe about suffering is that suffering makes us less usable and valuable to God.

  • Another lie we believe about suffering is that our comfort is what is primary in our relationship with God.

  • The third lie we believe about suffering is that the result of our performance is a measurement of God’s love for us.

  • If we believe these lies about our suffering, then we will believe them about suffering of others.

  • God calls us to be uncomfortable so that He can be our Comforter.

  • The Comforter doesn’t eliminate suffering, He softens it with truth.

  • Repentance is turning from the lies we believe and turning to the the truth of scripture. Repentance comforts us.

  • Everyone’s grief journey is unique.

  • Grief is a journey, one that is meant to be made with the Holy Spirit.

  • That journey is a journey of faith, and in the journey our faith is proved.
