THE WILDERNESS: Stay on the Path
The Wilderness
Stay on the Path
February 25, 2024
Main Scripture: Exodus 32:1-10, 1 Corinthians 10:1-14
Additional Scriptures: Philippians 4:6-8
POINTS:
God uses the wilderness to both show and reorder the loves of our hearts.
We will magnify whatever we set our hearts on.
We are tempted to magnify problems, imperfections, rights, opinions, security, comfort, and self-preservation above Christ.
Idolatry is the disordered loves of your heart.
In their idolatry, the Israelites tried to get Christ to serve them instead of them serving Christ.
Grumbling shows us that we believe Jesus serves us instead of us serving Christ.
Gratitude is the way of the gospel.
It is grumbling that will take you off the path and it is gratitude that will keep you on it.
The temptation of idolatry is common to mankind.
We stand firm on the path by (1) recognizing that the temptation of idolatry is around us all the time and (2) repenting of idolatry by praising God (Philippians 4:6-8)
