THE BAPTISM OF THE SPIRIT
November 5, 2023
Main Scripture: Luke 4:1-13, 18-19
Additional Scriptures: Revelation 3:20, Isaiah 54:1-2, John 15:20, 26
POINTS:
Single stage view: there is only one baptism of the Spirit and it happens at salvation.
Multi-stage view: believes that the Holy Spirit is received in two or more stages, including a distinct experience after salvation that imparts “the fullness of the Spirit.
Outside The Walls subscribes to the multi-stage view of Holy Spirit baptism as part of the Foursquare denomination.
The sin the Holy Spirit convicts us of the most is self-righteousness.
We are given privileges as God’s children. The privilege of boldly coming to God in prayer, security, protection, intimacy, inheritance, family, and authority.
The multi-stage view of the Spirit’s Baptism focuses primarily on the authority given to us as children of God.
There is a difference between the indwelling and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit wants to dine with us so that we are full of Him and have a deeper intimacy with Him.
We can treat the Holy Spirit’s knock like UPS (just leave the gift at the door), or like “I’ll take it from here”, or with a “Yay! It’s you!”.
The Holy Spirit will not share space with the devil in your life.
God is creating faithful servants that can shine regardless of how dark the night is.
We are baptized by the Spirit to reveal the Father’s heart to the world so that we bring about a redemptive touch wherever we go.
